Summary:
Under the direction of the Collections Manager & Registrar, the Art & History Venue Collections Assistant helps in all aspects of the Collections department including collections storage, tracking, access, and preparation for exhibitions.
Supports the Registration Assistant with the paperwork and digital aspects of the collection tasks.
Assists with preparation, installation, and deinstall of Stark Museum of Art exhibitions and The W.
H.
Stark House room change outs.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Collections Facilitate ongoing re-housing and reorganization of storage at the Stark Museum of Art and The W.
H.
Stark House.
Facilitate pre-approved appraisal, photography, and research on-site visits.
Facilitate pre-approved access to secure storage areas for building services, security, contractor needs.
Monitor environmental conditions of the Stark Museum of Art and The W.
H.
Stark House.
Catalogue objects and update records in the collections management system (TMS).
Perform archival numbering and tagging of objects at the Stark Museum of Art and The W.
H.
Stark House.
Assist with annual collections spot audits and scheduled full inventories.
Assists with condition reports, packing, and unpacking for any loaned objects leaving or entering the Museum.
Maintain organization of secure collections spaces.
Monitor collections general supplies and emergency supplies.
Prepare orders for replenishing supplies throughout the year.
Assist with collections-related housekeeping.
Help Registration Assistant with photographic documentation of collections and filling outside and internal request for images of the collection as needed.
Exhibitions As a member of the exhibitions install and deinstall team assists as needed with:
Installation of exhibitions, under supervision of Exhibitions Manager, including movement, hanging, and installation of collections artworks and objects.
Work with Exhibitions Manager and Collections Manager & Registrar on preparations needed for exhibition and permanent collection installations, such as label mounting, and object mount making.
Installation of vinyl wall graphics and panels under supervision of Exhibitions Manager.
Support creating 360 virtual tours of the Museum and House using Matterport platform.

Responsibilities:
None Reports to Collections Manager & Registrar, A & H Venues.
Works closely with Registration Assistant, Curator - Stark Museum of Art, Exhibitions Manager, and others as needed.

Undergraduate degree from a college/university in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, or related field required.
Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
1 - 2 years working with collections in a museum, historic site, or other cultural organization.
Art and object handling, cataloguing, and storage Collections management systems, TMS, or other relational data bases preferred, Microsoft Suite of Programs, Adobe Photoshop Data Entry Knowledge of and working experience with archival materials and methods for safely displaying and storing 2-D and 3-D objects Mount making, packing and unpacking collections materials Preferred

Applicants must be detail oriented, enthusiastic, and capable of doing repetitive tasks, with excellent computer skills.
Knowledge of museum collections care practices and art/object handling required.
Must be good working in a team and individually.
This position requires initiative, strong attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
Physical Demands:
Most work is performed in a climate-controlled environment.
Ability to push, pull, lift and carry 10 - 50 pounds short distances.
Ability to climb step stools and carry objects upstairs.
Vision requirements needed are color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to enter data in a computer, wear gloves and be able to perform delicate operations when dealing with fragile objects.
Have good, clear communication skills both verbally and written and able to understand spoken communications.
While performing the duties of this job, the Collections Assistant is required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, and see.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will normally work in climate-controlled environment.
Nosie levels are generally quiet.
Work Schedule:
40 hours per week primarily Monday- Friday, 8 a.
m.
- 5 p.
m.
, with some evening, weekend, and early morning hours as needed.
