gov) Position Description Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving design, construction of transportation systems, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards.
Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility.
Work requires contact with governmental officials, contractors and private entities.
Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Transportation Specialist I, II, III:
Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects Assists with project assignments and determining work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway Assists with project design involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections Coordinates compilation of complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature Coordinates engineering field staff activities and provides technical assistance in resolving construction problems Implements the Vegetation/Herbicide Program Researches and analyzes incoming correspondence, reports and other written material Develops and monitors budgets Reviews area office contract submissions and coordinates process with area engineers Performs other job responsibilities as assigned Minimum
Qualifications:
Education:
Transportation Specialist I, II, III - Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis.

Experience:
Transportation Specialist I:
2 years in Transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).
Transportation Specialist II:
4 years in Transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).
Transportation Specialist III:
5 years in Transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).
Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver's license.
This position requires driving a state vehicle.
